BIG TEASE
At the moment, the Taycan and Taycan Cross Turismo are the only two all-electric models in Porsche’s lineup, but that figures to change in a big way in the coming years. In addition to a Macan EV, the German automaker is set to reveal a new electric concept vehicle at the upcoming International Motor Show in Frankfurt. In the meantime, Porsche is whetting our appetites with this singular teaser image, which shows a very Taycan-like headlight, at least
Looking Ahead
“For more than 70 years now, motorsports have been the toughest testing grounds for engineering innovations on their way to series production,” the automaker said. “Porsche has followed this path consistently over the years and continues to do so. At @iaamobility, Porsche is now looking to the future – with cutting-edge technology combined with breath-taking design. We will celebrate the world premiere of a future-oriented concept study on 6 September.”
Motorsport Inspired
This statement is rather interesting in that Porsche specifically mentions motorsport, which would seemingly hint that this concept is not an SUV or crossover, but rather, something a bit more performance-oriented, though the automaker does have its fair share of fast SUVs
Racer Or Road Car?
The question is – will this be a vehicle inspired by motorsport, or one specifically geared toward motorsport? That’s difficult to tell by looking at this one teaser image, but it appears to be more of a production road car than an all-out racer, as it’s devoid of any sort of livery.
Electric 718?
It seems possible that this concept could be previewing the forthcoming electric version of the 718 Cayman or Boxster, truthfully, which seems inevitable at this point. We know that the 911 will be the last electric Porsche, so why not kick off this revolution with an EV version of these smaller, lightweight models?
Performance Potential
At the moment, it’s impossible to know exactly what Porsche has up its sleeve, but an electric sports car – not a sedan – seems like an exciting possibility, especially given the incredible performance the Taycan already provides. Throw that powertrain in a smaller vehicle, and the sky is truly the limit.
